Update - April 2017

The demolition of 1 The Causeway started on 3 April, and will be replaced by a temporary surface car park with landscaping.

The work represents the next stage in East Herts Council's project to transform Bishop's Stortford, made possible by its purchase of Old River Lane - a key site in the town. While the work takes place, the council will transform hoardings around the site into a colourful montage telling the story of the project so far, and include comments made during last autumn's consultation. The work will last for three to four months. During the demolition stage the building will be scaffolded and the site fully hoarded off. The contractor carrying out the works is McFletch who are an experienced, local demolition firm. They will post notices on the site hoarding to keep people informed of progress. The temporary car park will be available for tenants of neighbouring Charringtons House, as well as the general public. Further details will be published towards the end of the demolition process.Council leader Linda Haysey said: "Creating a temporary car park allows us to use the space in a way that will benefit the town but doesn't pre-empt any of the comments from the consultation or any future long-term plans for the heart of the town."

EHDC ARE SEEKING YOUR VIEWS

You may have read in the local press that East Herts DC has taken back ownership of the Old River Lane site (sometimes known as the Causeway) from Hendersons.

EHDC has established a steering committee to consider how this site would be best used and they are interested in what the residents of Bishop’s Stortford have to say.

If you let CCA know how you would like to see the Old River Lane site developed we will collate your views and feed these back to the steering committee through Bishop's Stortford Civic Federation.

So, please email us with your comments!
