Residents Parking Scheme – Chantry Zone B7 - Chantry Road Petition.

A petition to East Herts Council was organised a few months ago by a Chantry Road resident, Richard Owen. It called on the Council to move the boundary of the parking bay at the Hadham Road end of Chantry Road to allow traffic to negotiate this junction more safely. The petition with 253 signatures was sent to EHC in May and it went before Councillors on 29 July. Mr Owen told the meeting of the concerns felt by numerous local residents and put the case for change. He added that a post implementation review of the scheme in 2012 had highlighted the access issue caused by the layout of the parking bay but this point had not been addressed by the Council.

In response, Cllr Gary Jones, Executive Member for Economic Development, accepted that there was poor visibility and limited queueing space at the junction in question. We heard that officers had visited the site with a representative of Hertfordshire Highways and they were satisfied with the layout; also that any changes to the scheme would require a new traffic regulation order at a cost of approximately £5000. Cllr Jones expressed sympathy for the petition and undertook to address the concerns raised within the next review of the Chantry scheme. The Council’s Resident Permit Parking policy would be reviewed this autumn and the new policy would provide an opportunity to address the changes being sought.

Residents with an interest in this matter may wish to keep a look out for news of these reviews.
